Week 75--November 27-December 3, 2016

Elder Saludar and Elder Perkins are the zone leaders in the Caloocan Zone. They are a cut above. Things needed to change in that zone for the work to progress. They were given the assignment to inspire and revitalize the zone. They came up with the new direction for Caloocan Zone "to sail the blackwaters." Caloocan is known for the blackwater that flows there when the rain falls. The goals they introduced to the zone were:

  • "All 'tags' on deck"  (up at 6:30 AM)
  • "Anchors away" (out to work at noon)
  •  "Back to quarters " (in bed at 10:30 PM)
  • 10 minutes early to all meetings

On Tuesday we celebrated Sister Bertin's birthday. President Bertin asked Garnalee to work on surprising her with a birthday cake. It was successful.

We also celebrated Sister Bertin's birthday by going to a Korean all you can eat buffet restaurant named "Sambo Kojin. There were dozen of choices of ready prepared foods or raw foods that could be cooked at your table. We had some of both. It was very tasty.

Tom and Garnalee spoke in church on Sunday. Garnalee's topic was "Prophetic Counsel in Unexpected Places" and Tom got to choose his topic. Unfortunately, Garnalee didn't plan very well and took 26 minutes. Tom only seven minutes.

We had our own Thanksgiving dinner on Sunday. We had purchased a turkey breast that was cooked in the slow cooker along with mashed potatoes, stuffing, salad, cheery cheese cake for dessert.

December 1 began the Church's Initiative of #Light the World. All members were encouraged to participate in service that day. Each zone planned and carried out a service project.

We had service given to us on Saturday which lit up our world. We went to PhilPost to mail a box home. We discovered that the box needed to covered with manila paper because it had writing on it. We went to National Bookstore that is next to PhilPost. Of course, they were out. We thought, "Oh great we have to pack this box back to the car, go to a different National Bookstore to buy manila paper, and then come back to PhilPost." We went back to PhilPost and a lady was there mailing an item. She had purchased a large item at National Bookstore and willing gave us her brown paper bag that worked for the label on the box and the employee at PhilPost used the brown tape we had purchased to cover the writing on the box. Problem solved and the package was mailed. As we visited with the lady we discovered that she was a retired teacher and had spent six months in the United States in Seattle and Vancouver.
